The answer

Looking at the fiancée is a , not an obligation, and it should occur before the engagement. It should be limited to what is necessary for the face and hands only. It is also Sunnah to repeat the looking to ascertain her appearance. Seclusion with her is forbidden, and conversation should be limited to what is necessary. If looking is not possible, a woman can be sent to observe her and describe her to him. It is also Sunnah for the woman to look at the man, excluding his 'awrah (private parts), and to inquire about him. The mahr (dowry) is the property of the wife, and she becomes entitled to it immediately upon the marriage contract. It becomes fully hers upon consummation or the death of the husband.
