What is the ruling on masturbation, and what is the ruling on the prayers and fasting of one who used to practice it out of ignorance of its ruling?

Masturbation is unanimously prohibited. The proof of its prohibition is the Almighty's saying: "And those who guard their private parts Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed But whoever seeks beyond that, then those are the transgressors." And practicing it with ejaculation invalidates the fast according to the majority of jurists. The doer must repent and make up for the fast. The prohibition increases if it occurs during Ramadan, and the preponderant opinion is that no expiation (kaffarah) is required for it.
