How can an unknown number of missed prayers be compensated for with supererogatory prayers (nawafil), regular sunnah prayers (rawatib), and prayers for specific occasions (dhawat al-asbab)? Is it sufficient to merely make up for missed fasting days (qada') along with repentance if one cannot afford to pay the expiation for delay (kaffarat al-ta'khir)? Does the expiation of feeding sixty poor people become an expiation for delay when one delays fasting?

The majority of scholars are of the opinion that one must make up for prayers and fasts if they were intentionally omitted, and that increasing voluntary acts of worship is not sufficient. As for one who is unable to pay the expiation for delaying fasts, the expiation remains his responsibility and becomes binding upon him when he becomes able to afford it. The expiation of feeding sixty poor people is not waived by delay; rather, it remains an obligation.
