How sound is the Hadith which mentions that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, saw his Lord in the best form, and He asked him about what the Exalted Assembly dispute, then He placed His hand between his shoulders, whereupon he knew what is in the heavens and the earth, and he recited the verse: "And thus did We show Abraham the kingdom of the heavens and the earth that he might be of those who have certainty"?

The aforementioned Hadith is the Hadith of the Dispute of the Exalted Assembly, also known as the Hadith of the Dream. Imam Ahmad, Al-Bukhari, and Al-Tirmidhi affirmed its authenticity, and Al-Albani declared it to be sound. Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah held the view that a person might see his Lord in a dream and converse with Him, and this is true in a vision. However, it is not permissible to believe that Allah Himself is like what was seen in the dream, and His manifestation occurs according to the state of the beholder.
