Can a Muslim who follows a specific madhhab recite and memorize the Holy Qur’an with any riwayah (recitation) he wishes, or is it preferable for him to memorize it with the riwayah prevalent in his madhhab?

A Muslim is permitted to recite the Quran using any authentic narration from the ten reciters (Qira'at), as they are all mass-transmitted (mutawatir). However, it is preferable to memorize the Quran using the narration common in one's country, due to the availability of assistance for correction and to avoid objections from the common folk. There is no obligation to adhere to a single narration because of a specific madhhab (definition) (school of thought). Rather, a narration becomes widespread in a particular country, and its people recite by it, such as the narrations of Warsh and Qalun in the Maghreb, Ad-Duri, Warsh, and Hafs in Sudan, Ad-Duri and Hafs in Somalia, and Hafs in the Arabian Peninsula, Turkey, the Indian subcontinent, and the Levant.
