It is permissible for a woman to stipulate to her husband that he not marry another woman. This condition is valid and binding. Its binding nature does not mean the nullification of the marriage if the husband violates it; rather, the wife has the right to annul the marriage. Scholars have differed on the obligation to fulfill this condition. The majority view it as recommended but not obligatory, while Ibn Taymiyyah considers it obligatory and legally enforceable upon the husband. However, if the intention of the condition is to link the wife's divorce to her husband marrying another woman, then if the husband marries another, his wife is divorced.
