What is the punishment in this life? And how can one be sure that it is indeed a worldly punishment?

The calamities that afflict people are due to sins they have committed, and Allah pardons many of them. The important thing for a Muslim to know when calamities befall them is that these are a trial from Allah to expiate sins and raise ranks, which motivates them to patience and contentment.
