It is permissible to change an ugly name to a beautiful one, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, did. It is also permissible to change a beautiful name for a good reason, provided that the change does not lead to attributing oneself to another family. This is religiously forbidden and carries a severe warning, and its prohibition is indicated by the fact that it is one of the greatest sins.

To get rid of a name that causes embarrassment, it is advisable to attribute oneself to a more distant or closer grandfather, while removing the undesirable name from official documents and replacing it with the name of the highest or lowest grandfather, in order to relieve religious embarrassment and avoid sin.
