If the fetus is less than 81 days old, the blood is considered istihada (irregular vaginal bleeding) and not nifas (postpartum bleeding). The menstrual period within this bleeding is determined by what coincides with the woman's usual cycle, or by the distinguishing characteristics of menstrual blood, or by an estimation of six or seven days if she has no regular cycle or distinguishing characteristics. She should perform ghusl (ritual bath) after the days of menstruation, and perform wudu (ablution) for each prayer while taking precautions. She has the rulings of those who are pure, and it is permissible for her husband to have intercourse with her.
