Is the mother considered sinful for neglecting her household duties, under the pretext that it pleases Allah, especially after five years of informal separation from her husband?
The husband has a great right over his wife, so she must obey him as long as he does not command her to commit a sin. It is not permissible for her to observe a supererogatory fast or perform a voluntary Hajj except with his permission. If a woman performs her obligatory duties and obeys her husband, she will enter Paradise from any gate she wishes. Obedience to the husband is equivalent to striving in the way of Allah. Whoever does not fulfill the right of her Lord will not fulfill the right of her husband. If a man calls his wife to his bed and she refuses, and he spends the night angry with her, the angels will curse her until morning. As for the man, he must treat his family kindly: "The best of you is the best to his family."
