Is it permissible for an unmarried woman to use makeup (such as lipstick and kohl) in front of women and her mahrams?
A Muslim woman must cover herself and not display her adornments to anyone other than her husband and unmarriageable kin (mahram), as Allah Almighty says: "And not expose their adornment except to their husbands or their fathers..." (Quran 24:31). There is no objection to a woman, whether married or unmarried, adorning herself, provided she adheres to the Islamic guidelines, the most important of which is that she should not display her adornments to anyone other than her mahram or to those among her mahram whose temptation by her is feared.
