What is the appropriate recompense or punishment for a person suffering from a mild mental disorder who, while under the influence of hashish, beat his mother and sister, resulting in a broken nose and internal bleeding for his sister, and is he required to pay blood money for breaking his sister's nose, and what is the permissible duration for boycotting him?

Firstly: Smoking hashish and all other intoxicants is forbidden and a grave sin. The smoker must offer sincere repentance and seek forgiveness from his mother and sister.

Secondly: If someone breaks another's nose and it is then reset straight, the perpetrator must pay "al-Hukumah" (a compensation estimated by experts) and the cost of treatment. If it is reset crooked, then al-Hukumah is determined by the degree of the crookedness. If the nose was not broken but the victim lost the sense of smell, then the full blood money (Diyah) is due.

Thirdly: If the young man continues to use drugs and there is fear of his harm, it is preferable to remove him from the house to ward off his evil. However, if he repents and quits, he should not be expelled lest he return to drugs.

Fourthly: It is permissible to shun a sinner who persists in his sin if it achieves his deterrence. If his deterrence is not achieved, or if continuing to associate with him causes harm or injury, then it is permissible to avoid him. For indeed, a "beautiful break" is better than a "harmful association."
