Does my saying, "I imagined that I divorced my wife twice"—with the intention of clarifying self-talk alongside my doubt about uttering the words—affect the occurrence of divorce, and does my supplication, "O Allah, forgive me if I have uttered a word that entails the occurrence of divorce without my knowledge and sincere intention, and I bear witness to You that I have taken my wife back into my عصمة (bond of marriage) without a guardian present or an increased dowry, should Allah destine the occurrence of divorce," have any effect?

Divorce does not occur by recounting its صيغ (formulas) or by uttering them for the purpose of seeking a fatwa, nor does it occur through writing for such purposes. It does not occur through doubt or illusions, and there is no effect to supplicating that divorce not occur. Whoever utters words that would cause divorce without being aware (of their implication) does not incur sin, and there is no need for رجعة (reconciliation), for divorce does not occur with doubt. One must ignore these whisperings (waswas) and seek Allah’s help, occupying one’s time with what is beneficial.
