Does the repentance of an apostate who returns to Islam get accepted if he insists on committing major sins?

Persistence in sins does not prevent the acceptance of a renegade's repentance. If he repents from apostasy and bears witness to the truth, he becomes a Muslim. He must then rid himself of major sins and repent from them with sincere repentance, just as all other sinners are required to do, in accordance with the Almighty's saying: "And those who, when they commit an indecency or wrong themselves, remember Allah and ask forgiveness for their sins — and who can forgive sins except Allah? — and do not persist in what they have done while they know."
