What is the ruling on fasting Friday?

It is disliked to single out Friday for fasting or its night for prayer, unless a Muslim fasts a day before it or after it, such as fasting Thursday or Saturday along with it. The proof for this is the prohibition of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, against singling out the night of Friday for prayer or its day for fasting, except for one who has a habitual fast.
