Why is fasting only on Friday not forbidden, even though the default for a prohibition is that it makes something forbidden, and a prohibition against singling out Friday for fasting has been reported?
Perhaps it is permissible in Islamic law to fast the day of Ashura and to fast a day before it or a day after it, for if fasting it were forbidden, it would not be permissible to fast it at all.
