Is lengthening the beard a characteristic of fools, as stated in Ibn al-Jawzi's book "Akhbar al-Humqa wa al-Mughaffalin," citing the sayings of the Tabi'in and scholars?

What was mentioned by Ibn al-Jawzi and others, that a long beard is a sign of a man's foolishness, may refer to excessive length. It does not mean that everyone whose beard is long is foolish, or that everyone whose beard is short is intelligent, as there is no necessary connection between the two matters.
