What is the authenticity of the saying, "Indeed, lifespans are decreed annually," and which books have discussed this? And is it authentically reported from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, that he used to fast all of Sha'ban in response to Allah decreeing every soul that will die that year in it, and that he loved for his appointed time to come while he was fasting?

Scholars have stated that on Laylat al-Qadr, the angels record what will transpire during the year from the Preserved Tablet, citing the words of Allah Almighty: "Indeed, We sent it down on a blessed night. Indeed, We have always been warners. On that night is made distinct every wise affair" (Ad-Dukhan: 3-4). In it, Allah decrees the affairs of the world for the coming year, including life, sustenance, and death. This is a clarification for the assigned angels. Some have held that it is the middle of Sha'ban, but the hadith narrated to that effect is weak. It has been authentically established that deeds are raised to the Lord of the Worlds in the month of Sha'ban.
