Is the daughter entitled to claim alimony for the period she spent with her husband, given the circumstances that led to their separation and lawful divorce?
The husband is obligated to provide for his wife equitably, as Allah the Almighty says: (Men are in charge of women by [right of] what Allah has preferred some of them over others and by what they spend from their wealth) An-Nisa/34. This maintenance ceases if the wife is disobedient (nashiz). However, he is obligated to provide for his wife who is revocably divorced during her waiting period ('iddah). Maintenance and housing are obligatory for a pregnant divorcee until she gives birth, by agreement of the jurists, as Allah the Almighty says: (And if they are pregnant, then spend on them until they give birth). The husband is obligated to provide for the pregnancy in all circumstances, before and after divorce, as well as after childbirth. Maintenance that the husband has not paid does not lapse with the passage of time, and it is permissible to demand it. If the 'iddah expires with the delivery of the child, it is not permissible to return [to the husband] except with a new contract and dowry.
