What is meant by "atom" in the the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Creatures will seek retribution from one another, even the hornless from the horned, and even the atom from the atom"?
The aforementioned was narrated by Ahmad in his Musnad, and its wording is: "Creation will take retribution from one another, even the hornless from the horned, and even the ant from the ant." Al-Arna'ut and Al-Albani authenticated its chain of narration, with the exception of "and even the ant from the ant."
"Al-Jamma'" refers to an animal without horns, and "Al-Dharra" refers to small ants or red ants. The meaning of thehadith is that Allah will judge justly among His creation on the Day of Resurrection, even extending to animals, so that retribution will be taken from the horned animal that gored, and from the ant that wronged another ant for the ant that was wronged.
