Is it permissible for a Muslim man to pray in congregation with his wife, and how should this prayer be performed?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

It is permissible for a man to lead his wife in prayer, and the woman should stand behind him. It is not permissible for her to stand beside him. This is evidenced by the prayer of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, with Anas and the orphan, where he placed Umm Sulaym behind them. Similarly, in his prayer with Anas and his mother or maternal aunt, he placed Anas to his right and the woman behind them. Al-Kasani and Ibn Rushd mentioned that a single woman prays behind the Imam.
