Is it permissible for a wife whose husband has passed away to perform the Hajj pilgrimage before her 'iddah (waiting period) expires?

A woman observing the 'iddah (definition) (waiting period) after her husband's death must remain in the house where her husband passed away. She is not permitted to travel for Hajj or for any other purpose unless there is a necessity, because the obligation of Hajj is conditioned upon ability, and she is commanded to stay in her home. This is the view of the majority of scholars. Evidence from the Quran and Sunnah (definition) supports this. In the Glorious Quran, Allah Almighty says: "And those who die among you and leave behind wives—for their wives is a bequest: provision for a year without expulsion" (Surat Al-Baqarah: 240), and His saying: "And those who die among you and leave behind wives, they shall wait on their souls for four months and ten days" (Surat Al-Baqarah: 234). In the Prophet's Sunnah, it is narrated by Furaiah bint Malik that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said to her: "Stay in your house until the prescribed period reaches its end."
