Is it obligatory for the actions of the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, to originate from and conform to the divine legislations in the Qur’an? If the answer is yes, is there a non-interpretive text that grants the Prophet the right to marry 9 women? And what is the explanation for its conformity while contradicting the limit on the number of wives stipulated in the Qur’an? And is there a Qur’anic text that grants privacy in marriage to the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him?

The intellect is weak and its capacity is limited. It is not permissible to oppose Shariah truths with it. The intellect has demonstrated the truthfulness of Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, through the miracles and signs that prove his prophethood. If the intellect acknowledges this, then it should not be made a judge over the Shariah. To unconditionally judge religion by the intellect is to follow whims and is a form of misguidance. If you imagine a contradiction between the intellect and the Shariah, then blame your intellect. As for the Prophet’s marriage to more than four women, Allah permitted this for him in the Holy Quran, saying: "O Prophet, indeed We have made lawful for you your wives to whom you have given their due compensation and those whom your right hand possesses from what Allah has granted you" (Al-Ahzab: 50). This is exclusive to him, peace and blessings be upon him, and not applicable to the rest of the Ummah.
