Is it permissible to propose marriage explicitly to a woman who was divorced once, after she has completed her waiting period ('iddah)?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

After the 'iddah (waiting period) ends, the effects of the marriage cease, and the divorced woman or widow becomes like an unmarried woman. It is then permissible to propose to her and to contract marriage with her. She is among those concerning whom Allah Almighty said: "And lawful for you are [all others] beyond these."
