The Maliki school of thought spread to several regions of the Islamic world, and its madrasas and scholars were renowned in the past in the Hijaz, Iraq, Egypt, the Maghreb, and Al-Andalus. It is now prevalent in Northwest Africa, Sudan, the Hijaz, and the eastern Arabian Peninsula, and has a strong presence in Egypt.
