Will a person be rewarded for performing a permissible act with the intention of forsaking the forbidden, and will Allah forgive past sins thereby?

Masturbation is forbidden, and repentance from it is obligatory by ceasing it, regretting it, and resolving not to return to it. Marriage is an effective means to quit it, and the married person is rewarded for intending chastity. Whoever is able to marry and fears falling into the forbidden, it becomes obligatory upon him. As for one who is unable to marry, he must be patient, practice self-restraint, seek help through fasting, occupy himself with what benefits him, and avoid incitements.
