The answer

To obtain the reward for sponsoring an orphan, it is sufficient to actually sponsor an orphan, even if you do not know their name or family. This is done by giving a sufficient amount to a trustworthy charitable organization, for the sponsor of an orphan will be close to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, in Paradise. Sponsoring an orphan means raising them and taking care of their affairs and interests, including expenses, clothing, and upbringing. This includes sponsoring an orphan from among relatives or a stranger, and it is not a condition to know their name or family.
