Is the wife of the husband's father, who claims to see the Prophet and perform miracles, and who prays at night and recites the Qur'an frequently and gives much in charity, yet also lies and causes strife and publicizes her charitable acts, considered among the righteous friends of Allah? And what is the extent of the authenticity of her claimed miracles? And how should one deal with her?

The Awliya' (saints or close friends of Allah) are the pious believers. The characteristics of this woman indicate that she is far from the Wilayah (close friendship) of Allah, and her actions are closer to the deception of the Sufis who mix truth with falsehood and claim knowledge of the unseen. Allah the Almighty has warned against such people, saying: (O you who have believed, indeed many of the Jewish scholars and the monks devour the wealth of people unjustly and avert [them] from the way of Allah).

Miracles (Karamaat) are affirmed for those who are steadfast, whereas what happens to the wicked is a gradual enticement (Istidraj). This woman's vision of the Prophet (peace be upon him), the spirits of the household of the Prophet, and the Awliya' is from the devil's trickery with her and is not a miracle. Seeing the Prophet while awake is not possible.

It is advised to be patient and pray for her and her daughter's guidance, and to recite the well-known supplication: "O Allah, we place You before them and seek refuge in You from their evils."
