What are the verses and hadiths that console those who have been robbed? What is the reward for the one from whom something was stolen and the punishment for the thief on the Day of Resurrection? And is theft a compensation for a greater calamity?

The wise Lawgiver (Shari'ah) has urged the Muslim to be patient in enduring calamities so that he may attain the reward of those who are patient. Indeed, the affair of the believer is all good: if prosperity befalls him, he is grateful, and if adversity befalls him, he is patient. And whatever harm afflicts the believer, Allah expiates his sins thereby. The afflicted person should look at those who are in a worse state than himself and ease his own burden, for this world is fleeting, and the calamity was not in his religion, and blessings remain. As for the thief, his affair is with Allah. He has exposed himself to Allah's wrath on the Day of Resurrection, and his good deeds will be consumed because of his injustice.
