Is Islam a religion of sorrow, poverty, and injustice? Is it Satan who grieves the Muslim? And what is the role of ignorance in the feeling of chronic sorrow and frustration, especially with the existence of sayings attributed to the Salaf, such as Al-Hasan al-Basri and Ibn Abbas, indicating the believer's sorrow?

Islam is not a religion of sorrow and misery; rather, it is a religion of tolerance and mercy, aiming for happiness in this world and the Hereafter. There is nothing in it that encourages sadness and despair. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was described as being often smiling and laughing. Sadness is not among the desired states in Islam; rather, it is a debilitating and weakening state for the heart. As for the verses and hadiths that mention sadness, they either prohibit it, deny it, or state that it is a trial that expiates sins. The sayings of the pious predecessors that praise sadness, such as the statement of Al-Hasan Al-Basri, have been interpreted as referring to humility and fear of Allah, not to sadness in its negative worldly sense.
