Are Harut and Marut angels or humans, and are they infallible despite teaching magic?

"Harut and Marut" were two angels sent by God to teach people what would protect them from evil, not to be punished for a sin. Therefore, the assertion that they were humans, or angels who committed a sin and were consequently transformed, is baseless talk that denigrates the angels of the Most Merciful, relying on Isra'iliyyat (Judeo-Christian traditions) without evidence from infallible revelation.

The Holy Quran mentions in Surah Al-Baqarah/102 that devils teach people magic, and that the two angels Harut and Marut taught magic as a test from God. They would advise anyone who learned from them that they were a trial and that they should not disbelieve. Magic causes separation between a man and his wife; it is purely harmful and offers no benefit, neither religiously nor worldly. The Jews knew that whoever chooses magic would have no share in the Hereafter.

Everything that contradicts the apparent meaning of the Quran regarding these two angels, originating from Isra'iliyyat, is refuted by the infallibility of angels. They are honored servants who do not precede God in speech and act according to His command. There is no authentic, marfu' (traced back to the Prophet) hadith that narrates details of the story of Harut and Marut beyond what is mentioned in the Quran, and any detailed accounts found therein trace back to the narratives of the Children of Israel.
