Who was the first to teach people magic, and what was the deed of the two angels Harut and Marut?

Magic is ancient. Allah Almighty mentioned it in the story of Moses with Pharaoh, and during the time of Solomon, peace be upon him. Neither Allah nor His Messenger mentioned a specific time for its appearance at the hands of a particular person, but it is clear that jinn are its source. It is mentioned in the Quran that every messenger was accused of magic, which indicates its ancient nature, as Allah Almighty says: "Likewise, no messenger came to those before them but they said, 'A magician or a madman!'"
