Does the mere mention of magic in the Qur’an not prove its existence? And are the narrations of the Prophet’s ﷺ enchantment, exclusively transmitted by Hisham ibn Urwah, so disquieting that serious matters cannot be established by them, given that they are solitary (Ahad) narrations?

The hadith concerning the Prophet's -peace and blessings be upon him- being afflicted by magic is authentically reported in the Two Sahihs (Bukhari and Muslim), and the Muslim community has accepted it. Only innovators deny this. This hadith does not diminish the stature of prophethood nor does it impugn it, for evidence has been established regarding the Prophet's -peace and blessings be upon him- truthfulness and infallibility in conveying the message. As for Hisham ibn Urwah - one of the narrators of the hadith - he is trustworthy, and the fact that the Two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) narrated from him indicates the soundness of his hadith against objection. When a solitary hadith (khabar al-ahad) is accepted by the Muslim community, it provides certain knowledge according to the majority of the Ummah, and it is acted upon in matters of rulings and beliefs.
