What is the ruling on insulting the Torah, not because it has been distorted, but because it was revealed by Allah, and is the Hadd punishment to be carried out on the perpetrator if he repents after people have rebuked him?

It is inconceivable for a Muslim to revile the Torah, as it is the Book of God. Whoever does so has apostatized, and scholars differ on whether their repentance can be accepted, similar to one who reviles God or His Messenger. If he knows that it is a revealed book and that belief in it is obligatory, then he is to be executed, and his repentance is not accepted, according to the more prominent of the two opinions. However, there is no harm in reviling the distorted religion of the Jews. If one reviles the Torah in their possession, intending its distortion, by saying, for example: "This version of the Torah is altered, and it is not permissible to act upon it," then this is true and there is no blame on its speaker.
