Is one absolved of responsibility for an injustice if the wronged parties cannot be found, by giving in charity the value of the injustice to a charitable organization that cares for the poor of the Haram, and should one give the original value of the injustice or its value after it was sold and benefited from?

One is not permitted to dispose of ill-gotten gains except after despairing of finding the owner. If one despairs of finding the owner and does not know his whereabouts, it is permissible to donate its value on his behalf. The value of what was unlawfully taken is determined on the day it was taken. This amount should be given as charity on behalf of the unknown owner. If the owner appears, he may either approve of the charity and receive the reward for it, or he may claim its value. This can be donated to charitable organizations or given directly to the poor.
