Scholars have explicitly stated the prohibition of the drum (tabl) and musical instruments, with the exception of the duff (tambourine), based on the : "Indeed, Allah has forbidden intoxicants, gambling, and the kuba." The kuba here refers to the drum. Al-Qurtubi said: "As for wind instruments, string instruments, and the kuba (drum), there is no disagreement regarding the prohibition of listening to them."
