What is the difference between mockery and arrogance?

The difference between mockery and arrogance is that arrogance is more general than mockery. It is rejecting the truth and belittling people. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, explained it by saying: "Arrogance is rejecting the truth and belittling people." So, rejecting the truth is to refuse it and not accept it, and belittling people is to despise them. As for mockery, it is belittling people, making fun of them, and diminishing their worth, and it does not necessarily involve rejecting the truth. The arrogant person shares with the mocker the belittling of people but adds to it the rejection of the truth. Both are blameworthy characteristics and religiously forbidden.
