A judge's ruling cannot be overturned unless it contradicts a text (from the Quran or ), a consensus (Ijma'), a clear analogical deduction ( Jali), or a general comprehensive legal principle (Qaidah Shar'iyyah Kulliyah). An ordinary person (layman) follows the one who gives him a because he is unable to examine evidence and make a preponderant choice. The divorce pronounced by a person suffering from obsessive-compulsive disorder () does not take effect, and such a person should not read about issues related to divorce, as that reinforces the waswas.
