What is the ruling on leaving overtime work for the sake of one's mother, when this results in the neglect of children and the inability to purchase medicine?
It is recommended to be patient with a harsh and selfish mother, to show her kindness and gentleness, and to deal with her tactfully, while being careful not to harm her. It is not necessary to quit one's job for the sake of honoring her; rather, strive to gain her satisfaction through various means. The children can help with this, and the siblings should be reminded to honor their mother and to take turns caring for her if they cannot take her into their homes, for honoring one's mother is a great gate to Paradise. We draw attention to the fact that caring for needy parents is obligatory upon all children, male and female, each according to their means.
