How is an inheritance divided among a father, a wife, and five sons?

If the deceased leaves behind only a father, a wife, and five sons, then the father receives one-sixth due to the presence of a descendant heir, and the wife receives one-eighth due to the presence of a descendant heir. The remaining portion goes to the five sons by way of ta’sib (residuary heirship).

The inheritance is divided into 120 shares: the father receives 20 shares, the wife receives 15 shares, and each son receives 17 shares.

Inheritance matters must be submitted to the Sharia courts to verify all heirs, wills, debts, and other rights before distribution.
