There is no harm in adhering to the ذكر (remembrance of Allah) in the manner mentioned if you do not believe it to be Sunnah, but rather do it out of habit of remembering Allah and doing so frequently. As for the hadith mentioned, it is a hadith that is not found in the books of Sunnah, and signs of fabrication are apparent in it.
