Is it permissible for a sponsor to prevent a worker from performing the Hajj pilgrimage, despite their financial and physical ability to do so?

Sponsors and employers are advised to help their dependents and employees perform acts of obedience and facilitate Hajj for them, due to the great reward therein. However, a sponsor is not obligated to grant permission for Hajj if he fears corruption of the work. This is similar to the jurists' view on preventing an employee from attending Friday prayer and congregational prayers for fear of work disruption, and preventing Hajj is even more pertinent.

If the employer does not fear for his work, he is not permitted to prevent a capable dependent from performing Hajj, just as a husband is not permitted to prevent his wife from performing the obligatory Hajj.

If the sponsor refuses permission, the dependent is not obligated to perform Hajj due to lack of capability. However, if he can secure another job that allows him to perform Hajj, he must do so. But if you fear that the sponsor will deny permission and disclose information upon resignation, or if leaving the job would cause harm that prevents the provision of life's necessities, then you are excused from performing Hajj.
