Is the questioner sinful for his verbal mistake that his maternal uncle refused to accept an apology for, which led to a rift between his maternal uncle and his mother and maternal aunt? Are his mother and maternal aunt sinful? Who is in the right, and what should they do?

There is no sin upon you if you did not intend to cause harm, for Allah Almighty says: "And there is no blame upon you for that in which you have erred, but [there is blame for] what your hearts intended." However, if you intentionally caused harm, then you are obliged to repent and redress the grievances with your maternal uncle, or obtain his forgiveness. Do not despair of seeking his pardon and showing him kindness, for forgiveness is a characteristic of noble souls. Your mother and maternal aunt are doing well by seeking reconciliation, but they will be sinful for severing ties with their brother if they do not accept his apology, for the one who maintains ties is not the one who reciprocates, and severing ties of kinship is a major sin.
