Is it permissible to slaughter a single sheep for the aqiqah with the intention of completing the number later when funds become available?

If you perform the aqiqah for a child with one sheep, it is sufficient and valid, and you will have achieved the essence of the Sunnah and the reward, especially in cases of difficulty or financial hardship.
