Is it permissible for a young man to ask about his lineage, and would the mother be sinful if she told him the truth, and how can he defend his dignity in society, and what should he do about the person who resembles him?

A child is the son of the man on whose bed he was born, and no other claims are to be considered, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The child belongs to the bed, and for the adulterer is the stone." It is not permissible to question the mother about this, as it is ill-mannered and an accusation of immorality against her, and it is an act of disobedience. Allah Almighty has commanded kindness to parents and specifically emphasized greater kindness to the mother. There is no benefit in asking, for Allah Almighty says: "O you who have believed, do not ask about things which, if they are shown to you, will distress you." (Quran 5:101) Whoever attributes a child to other than his father is a slanderer who deserves the punishment for slander if he does not produce four witnesses, for Allah Almighty says: "And those who accuse chaste women and then do not produce four witnesses - lash them with eighty lashes and do not accept their testimony ever after. And those are the defiantly disobedient." (Quran 24:4) To preserve the mother's dignity and the child's lineage, a slander case should be filed against the accused to ensure he receives his just punishment.
