Does abandoning sin and occupying oneself with prayer, after having walked a forbidden path and not repented of it, count as repentance?

Sincere repentance is only valid if its conditions are met. Through it, Allah forgives sins, no matter how great they are, for Allah Almighty says: "Say, 'O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.' And return [in repentance] to your Lord and submit to Him before the punishment comes upon you; then you will not be helped." And whoever does not repent from sins, their transgressions remain upon them, even if they pray and fast. Repentance from sin is obligatory, for Allah Almighty says: "O you who have believed, repent to Allah with sincere repentance," and His saying: "And whoever does not repent - then it is those who are the wrongdoers," and His saying: "And turn to Allah in repentance, all of you, O believers, that you might succeed." Repentance is only valid with knowledge of the sin and acknowledging it, and seeking to be free from its consequences. The sinner must repent from every sin they have committed. If they do not remember them, they should repent generally from all sins. General repentance encompasses everything they consider a sin and includes a general resolve to perform what is commanded and abandon what is forbidden, and a general remorse for every forbidden act.
