The answer

If a solar eclipse occurs on a Friday, it will either be a sufficient time before the Friday prayer or during its time.

If the eclipse is a sufficient time before Friday prayer, the eclipse prayer is performed first, then the Friday prayer.

If the eclipse occurs during the time of Friday prayer:

1. If there is a fear of missing the Friday prayer, the Friday prayer is given precedence.

2. If there is no fear of missing it:

The majority of scholars hold that the eclipse prayer should be performed first.

The Hanbalis (a view chosen by Ibn Qudamah) hold that the Friday prayer should be performed first, due to the hardship it causes people to prioritize the eclipse prayer, and because it is not obligatory. Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen supported prioritizing obligatory prayers (like Friday prayer) over the eclipse prayer because they are more important.

Ibn Qudamah said: "The obligatory prayers that are prayed in congregation take precedence over the eclipse prayer in all cases, because prioritizing the eclipse prayer over them leads to hardship."

If the Friday prayer is begun, a sermon is delivered for it and it is prayed, then the eclipse prayer is performed and a sermon is delivered for it.

If the eclipse prayer is begun, it is prayed, then the sermon for Friday prayer is delivered, mentioning the eclipse within it, and the two Friday sermons suffice for the eclipse sermon.
