A sister who errs should be advised gently and kindly. Her rights should be fulfilled, and kinship ties maintained if she is a relative, or the right of Islam if she is not. If a brother severs ties with his sister, he incurs sin. The sister should maintain ties with him, even if only by greeting. A divorce oath takes effect if the sworn-upon condition occurs, whether the intention was to enact it or to threaten. It does not take effect if the reason for the oath ceases to exist and the swearer had a specific intention. It is not permissible for a girl to go to a Quran memorization center if that harms her father and leads to divorce. She must seek another way to memorize the Quran and acquire knowledge.
