Ibn al-Qayyim pointed out various types of contextual clues, emphasizing that a word must be accompanied by something that indicates its intended meaning, and he divided them into verbal and conceptual. Ibn Taymiyyah stressed the importance of examining every verse and hadith within its context, along with the clues and indications that clarify their meaning. Al-Shatibi added that understanding a text requires connecting the beginning of a statement with its end, and not limiting oneself to certain parts while neglecting others.
