Masturbation during the daytime in invalidates the fast and necessitates expiation if semen is discharged, unless the person is ignorant, such as a new convert to Islam, in which case only a make-up fast is required. This is the view of the Maliki school. العلامة Khalil ibn Ishaq al-Maliki and al-Dardir mentioned that intentionally causing semen to be discharged, even by prolonging thought or looking, necessitates expiation for someone who is accustomed to ejaculating through such means. And sinning in Ramadan carries a graver offense.
